Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what Board & Quill Inc. ("Board & Quill," "we," "us," or "our") collects when you use our services, what we do with it, and what rights you have over your information. We want to be straightforward, not legalistic, so we have written this in plain language wherever the law lets us.

If anything here is unclear, or if you want us to access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, email us at [email protected].

What we collect

We only collect information you give us, plus a small amount of technical information your browser sends automatically when you visit any website.

Information you give us

When you sign up, subscribe, or contact us, you may provide:

If you become a subscriber and choose to use our subscriber portal, you may also enter:

About per-child information: The first names and optional age bands you enter for your children are subscriber-entered labels for your own household tracking. We do not share them with third parties. We do not market to your children. You can edit, archive, or delete any of these entries from your account page at any time.

We do not collect sensitive information, and we do not collect payment card details directly. All payment information is handled by Stripe under their own privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we receive some technical information when you visit, including your IP address, the type of browser and device you are using, your operating system, the pages you visit, and the dates and times of your visits. This helps us keep the site running, fix bugs, and understand which pages are useful.

We use cookies for security and basic site functions. Details are in our Cookie Policy.

What we do with your information

We use the information you give us to run Board & Quill. Specifically:

We do not sell your information. We do not rent it. We do not share it with advertisers.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run Board & Quill, and only the information they need to do their job:

Each of these providers operates under their own privacy policy. We share the minimum information required for the service involved.

If Board & Quill Inc. is ever sold, merges with another company, or transfers ownership, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We would notify subscribers before any such transfer affected their information.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as you have an account with us, plus a short period after closure to handle final billing and any final correspondence.

You can ask us to delete your information at any time by emailing [email protected]. We may need to keep some records longer where the law requires (for example, tax records). When we no longer need your information, we delete it or, where deletion is not technically possible, we make sure it is no longer linked to you.

How we keep your information safe

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), separate storage for payment data (handled entirely by Stripe), and access controls on our systems.

No system is perfect. If you have a Board & Quill account, please choose a unique email address you check regularly, since the portal uses email-based magic links to sign you in.

Children

Board & Quill is designed for homeschooling parents and guardians, not for children directly. To create an account or subscribe, you must be at least 18 years old, or be a parent or guardian acting on behalf of your household.

Children do not interact with our website or services directly. The first names and optional age bands you enter for your children, as described above, are entered by you, the parent or guardian, for your own household tracking. We do not market to children. We do not share children's first names or age bands with third parties.

If you believe a child has somehow created an account or provided us with personal information directly, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights over the information we hold about you. These commonly include the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond as quickly as we reasonably can.

Canadian and international visitors

Board & Quill Inc. is a Canadian corporation operating under the laws of Alberta. Our handling of personal information is governed by Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we acknowledge your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR. If you are a resident of a US state with its own privacy law (such as California, Colorado, or Connecticut, among others), you may have rights under that state's law as well. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address above.

Do-Not-Track signals

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to this signal, so we do not currently change our behaviour based on it. We do not run the kind of cross-site tracking that the signal is designed to limit.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, as our services or the law change. The date at the top of this page will always reflect when it was last revised. If we make a material change, we will tell our subscribers, and we may ask you to acknowledge the new version when you next sign in to your portal.
